Tag refers to images specifically referencing the iconic 1966 Italian Western film. It was originally titled il buono, il brutto, il cattivo. It is the third, final, and the most iconic film in the Dollars trilogy, which are all created by Sergio Leone, star Clint_Eastwood and feature a soundtrack composed by Ennio Morricone. This is also the final collaboration between director Leone and actor Eastwood and the two men clashed with each other while making the film. This film is implied to be a prequel to the other two films, and is the biggest film of the three in terms of budget, scale of the story, and length.

It is the middle of the American Civil War. The nation and the wild west are torn apart by the seemingly endless cycle of bloodshed. In the midst of all the carnage, Angel Eyes, a ruthless bounty hunter and the titular 'The Bad', learns of a secret massive cache of Confederate army gold from one of his targets. Upon killing the man, he sets out to get the gold for himself.

Meanwhile, Tuco, a deceptive goofy outlaw (the Ugly), is busy fending off various bounty hunters, including Blondie (The Good). Blondie proves to be most effective out of all the bounty hunters, and gets into a back-and-forth conflict with Tuco. The conflict between the two men is temporarily put on hold once they learn about the same cache of gold from another Confederate soldier. The two men set out to find the gold together, forming an uneasy partnership. The three men continually cross paths with and manipulate each other as they brave the bloodshed of the Civil War, rival bounty hunters, and the harshness of the desert in order to get their hands on the gold.

While the film is not primarily a war film, the Civil War plays a large role in the story and Leone wanted to show the absurdity of war, how pointless and foolish he believed it to be. Besides condemning war, Leone also wanted to avoid romanticizing the Old West and instead depict it in a gritty and violent way.

In spite of taking place in America, the film was filmed in Spain, much like most other Italian Western films. The cast was made up of actors around the world. When acting, the actors spoke their native language and were later dubbed in the same language for consistency.

The film took some time to gain its iconic status. While the film was a box office success, professional critics initially had mixed feelings towards it. However, critical opinion of the film improved with time. It has also had a massive impact on the Western genre, helping shape popular perception of the genre. The film and Morricone's score are often homaged and parodied.
