She is associated with the color brown and her outfit and her accessories are mostly different shades of brown. She is based off of The Velveteen Rabbit. She is a shy student at Beacon Academy. Her status as a Faunus makes her a target for the racist Cardin Winchester and his friends/teammates. Although they bully her, she does not fight back and instead pleads for them to stop. She is a friendly and gentle girl who gets along well with her teammates and Team RWBY. She carries around a brown box and has a hobby of photography, often suddenly taking pictures of others whether they're ready for it or not. She doesn't seem to be very good at it though as the subjects of her pictures seem to be out of focus. She puts her camera into her box. She is much stronger than she appears to be, being able to push a Grimm back via kicking. Her photography hobby is not just a hobby, it is actually part of her abilities. When she takes pictures, she isn't actually taking pictures of other people, she is actually focusing on their weapons. For a brief period of time, she can copy any ability and weapon she has ever taken a picture of. Even if she's never used the weapon before, she can use it just as skillfully and effectively as the original user. She is notably rather popular amongst the fanbase despite her limited screen time. Her popularity surprised the creators who intended her to be a minor one-shot character to show how Faunus are discriminated against, but her unexpected popularity inspired them to make her into a more important character starting with the second volume of RWBY, complete with a team of her own, CFVY. She is also the subject of a contest held by creator Monty Oum for fans to submit potential battle costumes for Velvet. Munnkie' submission ended up being the winner of the contest, out of 1300 submissions. The series artists changed the color scheme of the submission, changing Velvet's armor from green to brown.
