Now Viewing: yoshi's_islandTag type: Copyright Prequel to the main Mario series. This game and its sequels are chronologically the earliest in the Mario series taking place when Mario is a baby. The first game debuted in 1995 for the Super Nintendo. The games use a crayon esque art style and are notable for its use of the Super FX microchip which allowed the game to create visual effects that were rarely seen on the Super Nintendo. Baby Mario is being carried on a stork along with another baby when Kamek's minions attack the stork sending Baby Mario plummeting to the ground. He lands on Yoshi who decides to collaborate with the other Yoshis on the island to reunite Baby Mario with the other baby. The game plays out as a 2D escort platformer where Yoshi must keep Baby Mario on his back. If Yoshi is hit, Baby Mario is trapped in a bubble and begins crying. Yoshi must retrieve him within a few seconds or Baby Mario will be kidnapped.
