Now Viewing: ayane_(doa)Tag type: Character Purple haired female ninja from Dead_or_Alive. She is Kasumi and Hayate's younger half sister and is ordered to track down and kill the former. As children, Ayane and Kasumi had a close relationship, but the relationship soured after Ayane learned the truth behind her conception (her and Kasumi's mother was raped by Raidou) and became an outcast to her village. She grew increasingly resentful of Kasumi who she believes Hayate cares about more though Kasumi does not seem to bear her any ill will. She debuted in the Sega Saturn port of Dead or Alive as a training dummy, but since then has managed to make as many appearances as the series heroine Kasumi and has become one of the main characters and icons of the series. Ayane became a playable character in the Playstation port of Dead or Alive and has appeared in all subsequent Dead or Alive games acting as Kasumi's rival. She has also appeared in the Xbox Ninja Gaiden games and is playable in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 with an outfit unique to that game although she is more of a supporting character story-wise. Her appearance in Musou Orochi 2 alongside Ryu reuses the same outfit. Outside of Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden, she has appeared in Musou Orochi 2 and Fatal frame 5 and in the case of the latter, gets a new costume unique to the game. As Fatal Frame 5 is a horror game, she doesn't fight unlike her other appearances. The reason why Ayane was selected to appear in a game very different in genre from her other appearances is because Fatal Frame 5 used the same graphics engine as Dead or alive 5. Story writer Izuno Toshiharu suggested that the team include Ayane after Ayane's image was used in the initial proposal for the game as he felt her personality suited Fatal Frame's atmosphere. The developers hoped that her inclusion would also broaden Fatal Frame's fanbase. She is also a playable character in the fanservice heavy hack-and-slash game Senran Kagura Estival Versus. In contrast to Kasumi, Ayane is more rude and cold in personality, in large part due to her troubled backstory. Despite her young age, she is a skilled ninja and an effective killer as she demonstrates in her chapter in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and in her appearance in Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge. Nevertheless, Ayane loves her mother and has a close relationship with Hayate. She also admires and respects Hayabusa Ryu and is comparatively nicer in her Ninja Gaiden appearances. In the Dead or Alive games, if Ayane wins a fight against Ryu or Hayate, her victory quote has a regretful tone as opposed to her standard mocking victory quotes. However, in Ninja Gaiden Black, a Ninja Dog mode (the easiest difficulty) is unlocked after the player dies three times in a row. If the player chooses this mode, Ayane and the game proceeds to mock the player and Ayane usurps Ryu's role as the hero and the title screen is changed to feature her prominently. She also uses weapons in those appearances as opposed to Dead or Alive where she fights with her bare hands like everyone else. She is the youngest playable female in the Dead or Alive series at the age of 16. As of Dead or Alive 5, she is now 18. She is 14 in the Ninja Gaiden games. She is busty in all appearances though how large her breasts are seems to fluctuate depending on the game with her breasts being the biggest in her Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 appearance. Her fighting style in the DOA games is fast and often involves a lot of attacks with her back faced to her opponent as well as a lot of spinning. Ayane's ending in Dead or Alive 3 is the canon ending of said game. She is voiced by Yamazaki_Wakana. In the live action film, she is played by Natassia Malthe.
