The story has been retold and adapted many times with the 1991 Disney film adaptation being one of the most well known incarnations of the story. Each incarnation has a different take on the story, but they all tell the story of a romance between a beautiful human woman and a man cursed to take on a beast form. A recurring theme in the story and its adaptations is that inner beauty is more important than physical appearances and the eponymous Beauty grows to recognize and bring out Beast's inner goodness in spite of his terrifying appearance and falls in love with the Beast. While based on a work with no relation to the fairy tale and also predates it, Shin_Sangoku_Musou depicts the relationship between Diao Chan and Lu Bu in a similar fashion as Beauty and the Beast and even allows the characters to dress as Beauty and the Beast.
