He debuted on December 22, 1998 in a series of sketches produced by NHK (Nippon_Housou_Kyoukai) and directed by Gouda Tsuneo, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the broadcasting station. His name is actually a pun. In the second episode, the announcer said to him: Domo, Konnichiwa, which can be translated as "Hello there" or "Hello, Domo." Domo is also the star of an English language manga titled Domo: The Manga, created by Clint Beckham. He has also starred in various video games. Outside of his official works, he is well known for featuring prominently in the famous image meme, "Every time you masturbate, God kills a kitten," that shows two Domo-kuns pursuing a kitten. Domo-kun likes to eat nikujaga and lives in a cave with some other animals like the rabbit Mr. Usaji.
