It is set in the Universal Century timeline and is a side story to Mobile_Suit_Gundam. It is a dark real robot action manga created by Ohtagki_Yasuo that started on March 23, 2012. It was adapted into an online anime series by Sunrise that ran from December 25, 2015 to July 14, 2017. Both seasons of the anime received compilation movies. The anime was written and directed by Matsuo Kou. The characters were designed by Takaya_Hirotoshi. The mechs were designed by Naka_Morifumi, Nakatani_Seiichi, and Katoki_Hajime. The soundtrack was composed by Kikuchi Naruyoshi. The series is set during UC 0079, during the events of the original Mobile Suit Gundam. It centers around two protagonists on opposing sides. One of them is Io Fleming, a cocky and jazz-loving ace pilot, who is a member of the Federation, specifically the Moore Brotherhood. The Brotherhood consists of soldiers who were from the destroyed space colony of the same name and who swear vengeance on Zeon for their home's destruction. The other is Daryl Lorenz, a crippled Zeon ace sniper who uses mechanical limbs to pilot his mechs and loves 1960s-era pop songs. He is part of the Living Dead Division whose members are all crippled like him and is its most valued member. These two pilots find themselves embroiled in a morally gray conflict between their factions as they wage a bloody war in the Thunderbolt Sector, a sector of space that has actual thunderbolts. This installment is unique in the Gundam franchise in its emphasis on music, which forms an important part of both protagonists characterization. The soundtrack consists of original songs composed to match each protagonist's taste in music. The anime employs multiple montages based around these songs.
