Now Viewing: hagoromoTag type: General 羽衣 Hagoromo (羽衣 , "feather robe") A long, thin shawl often associated with Far-East celestial beings and deities. Despite being thin, it is often depicted being able to remain up right in the air on its own. The cloth was modeled after an ancient Chinese garment called a 披帛 (Pi-bo). Tales associated with the hagoromo include the Japanese legend of celestial maidens [1] and some folkloric stories that have their settings in China, for example, Orihime and Hikoboshi. Buddhist deities' hagoromo-like shawls are called 天衣 (Chinese: tian yi, Japanese: tenne) [2]. On Gelbooru, tian yi should be tagged as hagoromo for convenience.
