Now Viewing: madworldTag type: Copyright Comedic and ultraviolent 3D beat em up game created by Platinum Games and released in 2009 for the Nintendo Wii. The game was the first game the company released. It was directed by Nishikawa Shigenori. It was produced by Inaba Atsushi, Christopher Kaminski, and Yoshino Jun. The game's story was written by Matsuno Yasumi, Jean Pierre Kellams, and Ken Pontac. The game's soundtrack was composed by Tanaka Naoto and are performed by Sick YG, Bandy Leggz, Ox, and Doujah Raze. The mysterious and antiheroic Jack Cayman arrives in Varrigan City to participate in the bloody Deathwatch games, a game show where its participants kill each other, which is recorded live. The winner of the games receives a large cash price. He quickly makes a strong impression on the viewers and the show's organizers with his fighting skills and earns the sponsorship of Agent XIII. But Jack is not after the money, he is collaborating with outside forces to complete a secret mission. Although the game is primarily made by Japanese developers, the game is heavily inspired by Western pop culture with an artstyle that is inspired by both Western and Japanese comics and the decision to have an original soundtrack filled with English language hip hop songs. The game was also released in North America first and came to Japan almost a year later. The game's hip hop tracks feature some electric guitar work, which was inspired by the Linkin Park/Jay-Z mashup album Collision Course. Despite its gritty and monochrome Sin city-esque visual style, the game is over the top and humorous in tone. The game offers a wide variety of ways to kill enemies gruesomely, many of which are quite outlandish and bizarre. The developers wanted to create a universe where violence is both accepted and denied. To that end, Matsuno came up with the game's premise of the violent competition Deathwatch to fulfill these two seemingly contradictory ideas; violence within Deathwatch is accepted but it is not accepted outside of the show. Gameplay also features humorous in-universe commentary done by former Deathwatch participants, Kreese and Howard Holmes. The game is often considered to be a successor to God Hand.
