Now Viewing: project_a-koTag type: Copyright Project A-ko (プロジェクトA子) Is a action comedy anime series. It encompasses the original 1986 feature length film and its OVA sequels and spinoffs. The original series consists of four entries and it spawned an alternate universe spinoff titled Project A-Ko: Gray Side/Blue Side or also known as Project A-ko: VS. The original film was written and directed by Nishijima Katsuhito. Kawasaki Tomoko and Moriyama Yuji also wrote for the film and the latter took over as director for the sequels. Nishijima returned to direct the alternate universe spinoff Gray Side/Blue Side. Characters were designed by Moriyama_Yuji It is set in the futuristic Graviton City. A-ko (which literally means Girl A) is a normal high school girl, except for the fact that whenever she runs she literally destroys the road, who lives a peaceful life hanging out with her friend C-ko. However, C-ko catches the attention of her wealthy mad scientist classmate B-ko who finds her cute and becomes obsessed with her. B-ko attempts to pull the two friends apart so that she can have C-ko for herself and goes on an escalating battle with A-ko who would really prefer that B-ko leave the two of them alone. B-ko is not the only who wants C-ko; a group of alien invaders seek to take her back to their home planet because they believe her to be their long lost princess. To that end, the aliens launch an attack on Earth and kidnap C-ko setting the stage for a battle royale between A-ko, B-ko, the military, and the alien invaders. The series parodies a lot of 70s and 80s anime and features plenty of superhero esque action (A-ko is implied to be the daughter of Superman and Wonder Woman). The original film also features English language pop music composed specifically for the movie. It was originally intended to be a hentai, but as the project expanded, the creators decided to tone down the sexual content and focus on the action and comedy instead although there is still plenty of fan service. The series, particularly the original film, was notably popular in North America and has spawned an American comic book adaptation as well as directly inspiring a 2003 live action film titled Xtracurricular. Has no relation to the Jackie Chan movie Project A.
