Now Viewing: evangelion:_3.0+1.0_thrice_upon_a_timeTag type: Copyright シン・エヴァンゲリオン劇場版 Shin Evangerion Gekijōban Tag refers to images referencing the fourth film of the Rebuild_of_Evangelion film series. It was released on March 8, 2021, the longest gap between installments of the frequently delayed Rebuild film series. One of the reasons for the long gap was because series creator Anno Hideaki suffered another mental breakdown while working on its predecessor, and it was not until he completed Shin Godzilla that he was reinvigorated to complete this film. The film was directed by Anno, Tsurumaki Kazuya, Nakayama Katsuichi, and Maeda Mahiro, and the crew of the previous installments reunited for this film. This film is not only the final entry in the Rebuild film series but also serves as the grand finale to Anno's tenure on the franchise with any future works in the series being developed by other creators. Because of this film's final nature, be wary of spoilers if you have not seen this film or the prior entries in the series The film starts directly after its predecessor, Shinji escapes to a village filled with survivors of the previous Impact, along with Rei-Q and Shikinami Asuka Langley, but is so traumatized by Kaworu Nagisa's death that he is left in a near catatonic state. Rei-Q and Asuka stay in the village and take care of Shinji while they figure out what to do next. Meanwhile, Ikari Gendou is preparing to initiate the Fourth and Final Impact that will finish off the rest of the humanity. As WILLE prepares for the final battle with Gendou's forces, Shinji must make the most important decision of his life, which will determine not only humanity's fate, but also his ability to make peace with his inner demons. The film was a box office and critical success, earning 10.2 billion yen at the box office.
