It is also notable for having a more realistic depiction of martial arts compared to most fighting games, and the matches end when one character's lifebar is depleted or when one character falls out of the arena. It received a 35 episode anime adaptation in 1995. Some of its characters have appeared as playable characters in crossovers involving Sega. Akira, Sarah, Jacky, Kage, Lau, Jeffry, Wolf, Pai, Shun, Lion, and Dural appeared in Fighters Megamix. Jacky and Akira were in Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing. Akira and Sarah Bryant will be guest fighters in Dead or Alive 5 in a partnership between Sega and Team Ninja and the upcoming Project X Zone will also feature Akira and Pai. The series, like many fighting games, has an international cast. The Asian characters are voiced in Japanese while the Western characters are voiced in English.
