Now Viewing: hirano_ayaTag type: Character 平野 綾 A female seiyuu/singer/stage actress born on October 8, 1987 in Nagoya, Japan. She is most well known for playing Suzumiya_Haruhi from Suzumiya_Haruhi_no_yuuutsu, Izumi_Konata from Lucky_Star, Amane_Misa from Death_Note, and Lucy_Heartfilia from Fairy_Tail. She started her professional career at an early age. In 1998, she joined the Tokyo Child Theatrical Group division of the Space Craft Group company and began appearing on TV commercials. She made her voice acting debut in 2001 in the anime Otogi_Story_Tenshi_no_Shippo, but she got her big break with the 2006 anime Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu where she played the eponymous character and won an award for in the Voice Acting Awards at the 2007 Tokyo Anime Awards. She also sung all of the vocal songs within that series. The success of that series led to a massive influx of new roles and she was especially busy during the year 2007. However, the success also became a double-edged sword as it led to her being overworked and developing health issues and her work output slowed down after that year to avoid overworking. Her music also began to head towards a more rock oriented direction after Suzumiya Haruhi, perhaps in part due to the success of songs like God Knows and Lost My Music which were also performed in-universe by Haruhi. The early 2010s were notably a rough time for her. In November 2010, she admitted that she suffered from a pituitary gland tumor since junior high, and held off from surgery out of fear that it would modify her voice and affect her acting career. In April 2011, she was forced to hold off from accepting new voice acting roles in order to deal with the tumor. In the same year, her music label Lantis dismissed her after it was discovered that she had sexual relations with several of her male band members. She also finally left Space Craft Group on August 11, 2011 and moved to the voice acting agency Grick. Nevertheless, she eventually returned to acting full time, but due to some lingering backlash over her actions during this time period, slowed down on the voice acting side of her career, often playing more supporting roles. On September 9, 2019, she was elected as an ambassador for the 'Cool Japan' initiative. On January 3, 2024, she announced that she married actor Taniguchi Masashi, who's most well known for his live action tokusatsu roles. She is also an in-universe character in the anime adaptation of Lucky Star as part of an elaborate seiyuu joke revolving around her. Lucky Star's protagonist Izumi Konata (voiced by Hirano), is a fan of Hirano and at one point attends a concert with Hirano singing. Konata is also a fan of Suzumiya Haruhi (also voiced by Hirano) and since they have the same voice actress, Konata can perfectly imitate Haruhi.
