She is the protagonist of Love Live! and due to her assertive personality is effectively the leader of Muse. She is an energetic girl with a deep love of Otonokizaka High. Her mother and her grandmother have also attended the school and she is determined to find a way to prevent the school from closing down due to lack of students. She is inspired to form a school idol group with her friends after seeing a performance by A-Rise, fellow school UT-X's school idols. Although she is capable of both, Honoka has never extensively sung and danced before and as pointed out by her friend Sonoda Umi, she initially does not have the physical stamina to be able to be a good idol singer. In the anime, Honoka is also faced with opposition from the student council president Ayase Eli who also wants to save the school but has a different idea on how to do so. She is the most skeptical about Honoka and Muse's ability to save the school. Despite the odds, Honoka refuses to give up and puts in all her effort into becoming a good school idol. She is a friendly and charismatic girl and has a knack for persuading people into going along with her. She often butts heads with Eli but Eli's friend and the council vice president Toujou Nozomi is more sympathetic towards Honoka's cause. She is the daughter of wagashi (traditional Japanese confectionary that serves sweets meant to be enjoyed with tea like mochi and red bean paste) owners and her house is essentially the shop. She despises red bean paste. She is the older sister to Kousaka_Yukiho. She is voiced by Nitta_Emi in her voice acting debut.
