It is directed by Oyagi Yasuyuki and produced by Konno Hideki and Shigeru_Miyamoto. Music is composed by Ota Asuka and Nagamatsu Ryo. The game introduces motorcycles into the Mario Kart franchise and so far is the only installment to allow players to use a motorcycle instead of a Kart. Motorcycles have the ability to perform wheelies which boost their speed, however, if another driver bumps into a driver performing a wheelie, the wheelie performing driver will slow down considerably. The princesses receive a special skin tight jumpsuit costume when riding motorcycles. The game also adds a stunt mechanic much like fellow racing game Snowboard Kids. A successful trick will boost the driver's speed. The game was also released with a special Wii Wheel controller which is a steering wheel where you place the Wii Remote in the back allowing players to 'steer' their vehicles by turning the wheel. The game has one of the largest rosters in the series and increases the amount of racers to twelve. As there are more racers, there are also more items being thrown around, which often leads to chaotic races. When playing multiplayer races, players can choose to toggle the frequency of items and can turn them off entirely. Like Mario Kart Super Circuit, this game also brings back a lot of popular race courses from previous games in the franchise alongside the new courses. This game is the first time Rosalina has appeared outside of Super Mario Galaxy. If a player has a save file with Super Mario Galaxy on it, s/he can unlock Rosalina much more quickly. The game sold extremely well; it is the best selling Mario game on the Wii as well as the second best selling Wii game with over 28 million copies sold.
