Now Viewing: sakurai_masahiroTag type: Character 桜井 政博 A male video game director born on August 3, 1970. He is most well known for creating the Kirby_(series) and Super_Smash_Bros. franchises. He started his video game career at Hal Laboratory, where he first developed his most iconic character, Kirby, at the age of 19. He left the company in 2003, after he made Kirby's Air Ride, because he was tired of constantly making, and being expected by others to make, sequels. Subsequent Kirby games have been made without his involvement. Ironically, his subsequent work still largely consisted of sequels, although this time they were for Super Smash Bros. He formed his own company called Sora on September 30, 2005 where he has worked ever since. His games are known for being light-hearted, family friendly, and accessible. However, he often sneaks in some darker elements in his games, which become prominent in the later portions of his games. He has also voiced King Dedede in both Kirby 64 and Super Smash Bros. He has his own column in the Japanese video game magazine Famitsu. Outside of gaming, he is also famous for his youthful appearance as he has not visibly aged in a long time. In the 2010s, Sakurai began consistently appearing on screen for video presentations to promote Smash Bros. games and their updates. Sakurai would sit in either his office or his home and introduce new characters and features to the viewers. Even after the completion of Smash Bros. Ultimate, Sakurai continued this style of videos by starting a Youtube series called Sakurai Masahiro on Creating Games, where he discusses the inner workings of video game development and shares advice based off of his experiences.
