Unlike horns, antlers are branched, quickly develop underneath a covering of furry skin called velvet, consist of dead bone once fully developed, and regularly shed over the course of the animal's life (most commonly every year). Not to be confused with Eastern_dragon_horns, which also branch, but are thicker and are categorized as horns.
