The Street Fighter II series started with the original Street Fighter II game itself, released in 1991 as a sequel to Capcom's 1987 fighting game Street Fighter. The game was designed by Nishitani Akira and Yasuda_Akira. Music was composed by Shimomura Yoko and Abe Isao. Street Fighter II improved upon the many concepts introduced in the first game, including the use of command-based special moves and a six-button configuration, while offering players a selection of multiple playable characters, each with their own unique fighting style and special moves. Street Fighter II is credited for starting the fighting game boom during the 1990s and remains a large influence on the fighting game genre. It even unintentionally invented the idea of combos in fighting games. By exploiting a bug in the game, players can cancel the animation of some moves and perform another move allowing players to combine basic attacks and special attacks. Later fighting games would expand on this idea. Its success led to the production of a series of updated versions, each offering additional features and characters over previous versions, as well as several home versions. Some of the home versions of the Street Fighter II games have sold millions of copies, with the SNES port of the first Street Fighter II being Capcom's best-selling consumer game of all time as of 2008. Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (スーパーストリートファイターⅡ) is a head-to-head fighting game produced by Capcom originally released as a coin-operated arcade game in 1993. It is the fourth arcade version of Street Fighter II produced, following the original Street Fighter II, Street Fighter II: Champion Edition and Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting. In addition to refining and balancing the existing character roster from the previous installments, Super Street Fighter II also introduced four new characters. It was also the first game to be developed on Capcom's CP System II hardware, which permitted more sophisticated graphics and audio over the original CP System hardware, used by the previous versions of Street Fighter II. Super Street Fighter II was followed by Super Street Fighter II Turbo, a fifth version of Street Fighter II released during the following year 1994, which further refined the balance between characters and introduced additional new features. The original Japanese version of Street Fighter II introduced an African-American boxer named "Mike Bison" (abbreviated as "M. Bison") as a boss character, a parody of real-life boxer Mike Tyson. In order to avoid any likeness infringement lawsuit from Tyson, Capcom rotated the names of three of the boss characters for international versions of the game: The final boss, called Vega in the Japanese version, was given the M. Bison name; the talon-wielding Spanish warrior known as Balrog in the Japanese version was renamed Vega; and the boxer became Balrog. The game's soundtrack has also become as iconic as its characters. While the songs were originally named after the game's arenas, they have become closely associated with the game's cast. For example, the China Stage theme has become Chun-li's theme and remixes of the them are referred to as such in subsequent Capcom games. The game has also been adapted into an anime TV series and movie. It has also received a Hollywood live action adaptation in 1994. Although the film is based off this sequel, it is simply titled Street Fighter, just like the first game.
