Now Viewing: yousei_teikokuTag type: Copyright Yousei Teikoku (妖精帝國, literally "Fairy Empire") is a five-member Japanese band formed in Nagoya in 1997. Originally started by vocalist Yui and keyboardist Takaha as a live playing musical group as part a project called Team Fairithm, the band's concept is to bring back the so-called Fairy Empire to this world and make people believe in fairies once again. Their musical style is a blend between genres of rock/metal (mostly symphonic and speed metal) with electronic music (mostly dark ambient) influences, with a gothic, and lately steampunk visual style. Some of their music is used as anime opening/ending/soundtrack songs, for example in Mai-HiME and in Mirai Nikki. They are now under the Lantis record label. They only performed overseas once, in Boston in 2013 at the Anime Boston convention. The band's motto of sorts is "Das Feenreich", German for "The Fairy Empire", which is often displayed alongside their Japanese name (it appears in the official band logo) and used as a call sign/war cry of sorts between the band and the fans. Frontwoman and vocalist Yui (ゆい), sometimes referred to as Yousei Yui (meaning "Fairy Yui"), and often admiringly called Yui-sama by fans, adopted a stage persona of a "Life Dictator" (as stated in the biography section on their website), often posing as the charismatic leader of the Fairy Empire. In performances and on promotional materials she is often depicted as a gothic lolita of sorts, with a somewhat fetishistic (zettai_ryouiki, fishnet stockings with garter belts etc.) but yet elegant attire, usually having a red strand of hair in her otherwise black hime_cut hairdo, and prominently displaying an actual, tribal-looking tattoo on her left arm. In other materials, she is depicted more like a fierce military commander or a white-clad angel. The band's Facebook page and Anime Boston's special video featuring her both uses English terms like "Her Highness Yui" and "loyal subjects", furthermore reinforcing her image as a royal empress and leader, with the band's fans being the "believers in fairies", her populace and army whom she reigns over. Her civilian name is Itsuki Yui (伊月ゆい), and she is known for multiple voice acting roles, particularly in anime. She is also believed to be Karen, the vocalist for Denkishiki Karen Ongaku Shuudan (DenKare), an underground musical group mostly producing music for guro-themed eroge made by the company Black Cyc. She writes a personal blog, Topazios, which displays her own web design skills, and she's also competent in building PCs. She is a gothic lolita in her civilian life too, and thus wears modest lolita clothing even outside of Yousei Teikoku. She has two cats, a black and a white one.
