"Wehrmacht" (lit. "defense force") was the name for the Nazi German armed forces. They were divided into three branches: Heer (Army), Kriegsmarine (Navy), and Luftwaffe (Air Force). Many of the more conservatively-minded officers, such as Erwin_Rommel, opposed the Nazi ideology; however, despite being overall cleaner of war crimes than the Schutzstaffel, many Wehrmacht units actively assisted and participated in war crimes throughout Europe.

Wehrmacht and SS combat uniforms for the most part appeared nearly identical. The main giveaways for an SS soldier are an "SS" decal on the helmet, a skull-and-crossbones Totenkopf in place of the Wehrmacht cockade, a red swastika armband, or a black uniform. Non-SS Panzer divisions also featured a Totenkopf on their collar lapels and hats, so exercise caution when tagging.
