Now Viewing: erwin_rommelTag type: Character Erwin Rommel (1891-1944) was a German officer and one of history's most legendary commanders. He commanded, at various times, the 7th Panzer Division, 21st Panzer Division, and Afrika Korps, the last of which was famed for treating their enemies humanely in stark contrast to Rommel's colleagues. While Rommel appreciated the wave of nationalism and the strengthened military that the Nazis brought, he resented the Nazis' race ideals and their encouragement of war crimes. In 1944, Rommel was forced to commit suicide by Adolf Hitler in exchange for his family's safety.
