Now Viewing: chirin_no_suzuTag type: Copyright チリンの鈴 The title translates to Chirin's Bell. It is also localized as Ringing Bell. It was originally a 1978 storybook written by Yanase Takashi. It has been adapted as a manga, an anime film, and various kamishibai plays. The anime film was directed by Hata Masami with a soundtrack composed by Izumi Taku. The book and its adaptations are family-friendly and children-targeted, but they are famous for being deceptively cute. What appears to be and starts off as a cute and light-hearted adventure, with a non-human animal only cast, steadily turns into a dark revenge drama. Chirin is an innocent lamb who lives a carefree life with his mother and associated flock of sheep. He is a very adventurous and curious lamb who can be identified by the bell around his neck, which was placed there so his mother could easily find him when he wandered off. However, Chirin's peaceful life and innocence are forever destroyed when a vicious wolf from a nearby mountain attacks Chirin's flock at night. In the ensuing carnage, his beloved mother is killed protecting him. Chirin vows to avenge her death by killing the wolf, but quickly finds that he lacks the strength and cunning to do so. Chirin decides that the only way to complete his mission is to become as bad as a wolf and he begs the wolf to take him as his student. . .
