Tag refers to images referencing this installment of the Star_Wars film franchise. It is the eighth main installment of the film franchise and the second of the sequel trilogy. It was written and directed by Rian Johnson and stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Issac. Mark Hamill reprises his role of Luke Skywalker. The soundtrack was composed by John Williams as usual. It debuted on December 9, 2017.

The film directly continues after The Force Awakens. Although the Resistance scored a victory in destroying Starkiller Base, they still find themselves on the defensive from the First Order and are forced to flee. To make matters worse, the First Order is using a tracking device to pursue them and has successfully destroyed many Resistance fleets. The Resistance itself is fraught with interservice tension, particularly between Poe Dameron and Vice Admiral Holdo, who don't trust each other. Poe tasks Finn, BB-8, and mechanic Rose Tico with a secret mission to deactivate the tracking device.

Meanwhile, Rey has finally come face to face with the legendary Jedi, Luke Skywalker, and plans to ask him to help out with the Resistance, but she only finds a man disillusioned with the Jedi way and broken by his past failures. With time running short for the Resistance, Rey must convince Luke to train her in the Jedi way and help defeat Kylo Ren and his master Snoke while Finn and Rose must deactivate the tracking device.

This film is notably one of the most controversial installments in the film series. Upon release, it received generally positive reviews from professional critics and grossed 1.333 billion dollars. However, its reception amongst general audiences and long time fans was extremely polarizing with the film getting an average user score of 4.4 out of 10 on Metacritic and sparking heated debate over score legitimacy on fellow review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. Carrie Fisher, who played Leia Organa, passed away during the film's production, and her sudden passing radically affected the plans for the sequel trilogy.
