On September 27, 2020, both Akai Haato and Kiryuu Coco looked at Youtuber analytics during their streams, both of which mentioned Taiwan. This angered Mainland Chinese nationalist groups who believe that Taiwan is part of China and not a separate country, which they felt Coco and Haato were suggesting. In response, Cover opted to suspend both vtubers for three weeks to let the controversy to settle down. This also tarnished Cover's reputation on the Chinese video upload site Bilibili and prevented Cover from expanding further in the Mainland Chinese market with many Chinese companies cancelling collaborations and sponsorships with them. While Coco and Haato were able to return to streaming as normal after the three week suspension, the fallout severely affected the Chinese branch as their content was largely on Bilibili.
