A lighthearted cosplay themed romantic comedy manga created by Fukuda_Shinichi. It debuted on January 19, 2018. It was adapted into an anime TV series by Cloverworks that started on January 9, 2022. The anime was directed by Shinohara Keisuke and written by Tomita Yoriko. The soundtrack was composed by Nakatsuka Takeshi. The anime casts two seiyuu who are relatively new to voice acting as its principal leads. It was adapted into a live action series that started on October 8, 2024, starring Nagase Iku and Nomura Kouta as Marin and Gojou respectively. It was directed by Kouji Shintoku, who previously directed another live action romance manga adaptation, Peach Girl, and written by Okazaki Satoko. The series follows Gojou Wakana, a teen boy who is raised by his grandpa, a Hina doll craftsman. Gojou has always been fascinated with his grandpa's craft and has spent his life studying it. Unfortunately, when a childhood friend found about his passion, she rejected him, labeling him as a creep because, in her mind, boys shouldn't enjoy dolls. Gojou has never given up his passion, but this experience greatly damaged his confidence in social interaction and he has spent his life up until high school as a withdrawn loner, always keeping to himself out of fear of being judged like he was as a boy. This changes once he meets Kitagawa Marin, a teen gyaru girl who's the most popular student in her class. She is a beautiful and successful model and has charisma and kindness on par with her looks and is a proud fan of anime/manga. Gojou is charmed by her looks and personality, but is set to spend his school life as a loner until she stumbles upon his secret hobby. Instead of rejecting him, she is amazed at Gojou's skill at constructing garments for Hina dolls, inspiring her to recruit him to be her cosplay outfit designer. Although Gojou has little knowledge of anime/manga, he is moved by Marin's acceptance of him and agrees to help her. As he assists Marin in fulfilling her passion for cosplay, Gojou finds his social circle widening and his relationship with her deepening. The manga's creation was inspired by a conversation Fukuda had with a female cosplayer. She mentioned that her lover told her that if she didn't quit cosplay, he would break up with her. Fukuda also heard about others in a similar position who were pressured by others or outside circumstances to give up what they love, and Fukuda came to reject the idea that a person has to give up his/her hobbies. Fukuda aimed to tell a story that celebrates cultivating one's passions and hobbies and hoped that the series would inspire the audience to continue their hobbies. The series delves into the intricacies behind cosplay and even features anime recreations of real life cosplay products and stores. The manga was successful upon release with the manga ranking 3rd in Honya Club's Nationwide Bookstore Employees' Recommended Comics of 2020, 16th for readers in the 2020 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guide from Takarajimasha, and 6th in the Comics category of the fourth edition of Tsugini kuru Manga Taishou. It sold over 5 million copies ever since the anime's premiere. Fukuda was also proud of the adaptation, being moved to tears by just the first two episodes.
