Now Viewing: jirai_keiTag type: General 地雷系, 量産型, 量産型女子 Jirai Kei (地雷系), translating to "landmine type", is a relatively new fashion subculture that originated in Japan's Kabukichou (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabukich%C5%8D) district and first spread in popularity in the early 2020s. Its initial style was inspired by Dark Girly fashion, but with its own spin to it that made the wearer appear distinctly "Jirai" even from just a glance. Jirai (地雷) is a common Japanese slang term used to describe something as "dangerous" or "triggering" as it is akin to stepping on a landmine. Before the association with trends, Jirai Kei (地雷系) was mainly used in a derogatory manner to label a woman as mentally unstable to the degree of violent emotional breakdowns, often towards their partners. As "landmine" is almost always used in negative context towards a person and to harass or demean, there has been controversy surrounding the name. While the term has seen some use in Japanese media as a sales point, it is still seen as derogatory to the degree that the staff of various companies refuse to work on anything related to the term or trend.
