Now Viewing: sakamoto_daysTag type: Copyright A crime action comedy manga created by Suzuki_Yuuto. It debuted on November 21, 2020 on Weekly_Shounen_Jump. It was preceded by a 2019 one-shot titled Sakamoto that acts as a prototype for the main series. It was adapted into an anime series by TMS_Entertainment. The first season ran from January 11, 2025 to March 15, 2025. The anime was directed by Watanabe Masaki, written by Kishimoto Taku, and scored by Hayashi Yuuki. It tells the story of Sakamoto Taro, one of the deadliest hitmen in the world, feared and respected by everyone in the assassin world. His tenure at the top of the assassin world came to a sudden end when he met and instantly fell in love with Sakamoto Aoi. Because of Aoi, Taro decides to quit being an assassin and the two of them decide to live a peaceful, civilian life. Five years later, Taro now has a daughter, Hana, and has let himself go, gaining enough weight to be almost unrecognizable from his prime hitman self. He lives a happy, quiet life running a shop named after himself. However, his quiet life is disturbed once Shin, a clairvoyant hitman and a former ally of his, tries to convince Taro to return to being a hitman. Taro steadfastly refuses. He not only has come to enjoy his life helping others at his neighborhood, but has also renounced killing altogether. He ultimately convinces Shin to also abandon the hitman lifestyle to work alongside him at this shop. Unfortunately, Taro's ideals and his desire to live a peaceful life are challenged once others in the criminal underworld decide to bring him back more forcefully, starting with placing a 1 billion yen bounty on his head. . . In the notes of the first volume, Suzuki simply states, "I love action movies" and the manga is heavily influenced by and is a love letter to action movies in both its character designs, and actual fight scenes. The manga received critical acclaim, winning the U-Next Prize at the 2021 Next Manga Awards. Fellow mangaka have also commended Suzuki's work on the series with Arakawa Hiromu (Fullmetal Alchemist) recommending this series and Jujutsu Kaisen's Akutami Gege praising the swordplay in the series. It also sold 2.2 million copies by October 2022. The manga inspired spinoffs including a 2023 light novel called Sakamoto Days: Koroshiya no Method, which was written by Misaki Renka and illustrated by Suzuki, and a side manga called Sakamoto Holidays which was created by Ookawa_Tetsu that began on July 4, 2024.
