Now Viewing: akira_slideTag type: General Images referencing the iconic shot from the motorcycle chase at the start of Akira_(manga). It depicts Kaneda_Shoutarou_(Akira) sliding on his bike to a stop after winning a joust with a Clown gang member. This moment happens in both the original manga and the 1988 anime film. In the original manga, the stunt is drawn with Kaneda and the bike in the background to the right side of the panel while the Clown gang member falling off his bike is in the foreground on the left side. When this scene was adapted into the film, the scene was tweaked a bit. The stunt is now depicted with complete focus on Kaneda with bike sliding right into the middle of the frame with dust clouds coming out from under his bike's wheels and coming to a stop just above the frame's center. This rendition of the slide is the one that became iconic and is one of the most frequently homaged and parodied shots in anime history with some variation of it appearing not only in fan art, but in other animated works, both Japanese anime and in animation from other countries.
