Now Viewing: devil_may_cry_(netflix)Tag type: Copyright The Netflix animated adaptation of Devil_May_Cry_(series). It's the second animated version of Devil May Cry, but unlike the 2007 Madhouse series, it's not canon to the games and is animated by American and Korean studios: Adi Shankar Animations and Studio Mir. The episodes are written by American writers Adi Shankar, who also executive produced the series, and Alex Larsen and are directed by Korean animators from Studio Mir such as Han Seung-woo and Park So-yeong. It debuted on April 3, 2025. It was scored by electronic duo Power Glove who previously scored another video game related property Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. It is set in an alternate 2000s era America which is faced with a massive demonic threat once a being known as the White Rabbit breaks into the Vatican Museum to steal the Force Edge. Said weapon was wielded by the legendary demon knight Sparda who used it to separate the human world and the demon world. With the Force Edge stolen, the White Rabbit plans to use it to destroy the barrier, allowing demons to pour into the human world and wipe out humanity. However, he can't do so with just the Force Edge alone as he needs amulets owned by the sons of Sparda to make use of it. Darkcom, a secret anti-demon security force, is assigned to foil the White Rabbit's forces and both groups discover that half of the amulet is owned by the private demon hunter Dante, one of the half human/ half demon sons of Sparda. Dante, who has until now hunted down demons while being completely ignorant of his true heritage and nature of his powers, is thrust into a battle that will determine both humanity and demonkind's fate and lead to him learning of his true family history. It is part of Adi Shankar's Bootleg Multiverse and is a loose adaptation of the games, borrowing the core premise, characters, and concepts, but largely tells an original story with them. Like Shankar's previous adaptations, it aims for a more adult audience and has more violence and profanity than its source material. In spite of being made in the 2020s, the series is also a throwback to the 2000s, the decade the franchise was born and was at its most prolific with the series using licensed hits of the era as well as introducing sociopolitical commentary inspired by American politics of that time. The series largely uses a new cast of voice actors, but two actors from the games (Johnny yong Bosch and Kari Wahlgren) are cast in roles different from their original castings with Bosch playing Dante instead of Nero, and Walhgren playing Echidna and Eva instead of Lady.
