Now Viewing: nine_inch_nailsTag type: Copyright An American industrial rock band founded in 1988. Their logo consists of their initials but the second N is reversed. In spite of being labeled as a band, it actually has only one consistent member, Trent Reznor, who programs, arranges, and plays all the instruments when recording in the studio. During live performances, he hires other musicians to play the other instruments while he sings. It was not until 2005 that Reznor added another member to the band, Atticus Ross. He became a one man band because he felt that other musicians he had previously worked with couldn't get the sound that he wanted. This decision was also inspired by the singer/musician Prince, who was also a master of multiple instruments. The band's name was chosen primarily because it abbreviated easily. The band is one of the most well known, longest running, and prolific acts in the industrial genre, winning 2 Grammy awards and selling multiple Platinum level albums. NIN's music and image are dark and sombre with lyrics inspired by Reznor's own mental health struggles and personal demons. Their music ranges from loud aggressive rock songs to quiet, ambient instrumental pieces. NIN's music has frequently been licensed for films and both members of the band also have a second career in scoring films. Their film scores, however, are credited under their real names and aren't considered to be part of NIN's regular music.
