Now Viewing: rumi_(kpop_demon_hunters)Tag type: Character A purple_haired young woman who styles her hair as a braided faux hawk. She is the lead vocalist of Huntrix and the protagonist of Kpop_Demon_Hunters and does the lion's share of the singing in the film. She favors clothing that covers her arms such as jackets or hoodies. She is a tirelessly hard-working woman who's fully committed to her singing, demon hunting, and Honmoon preserving duties. This duty was inherited from her biological mother and the woman who became her mother figure Celine. In combat, she wields a sword and is one of the few people in South Korea to not be immediately charmed/distracted by the Saja Boys. She's a kindhearted woman who's willing to see the best in others. She is very close to her fellow Huntrix members who are like sisters to her, but even they can sense that Rumi, for all of her kindness and loyalty, still puts up a wall between them. She's actually half demon/half human, something that only her and Celine know. Celine instructed her to keep this a secret, hiding her demon markings from the others which is why she never bares her arms to them. Another reason, Rumi is so dedicated to make the Honmoon barrier permanent is because she believes that it will erase her demon markings. The insecurity that having to hide this secret breeds in her proves to be a weak point that the demons end up exploiting. Yet its revelation also allows her to make a connection with the lead Saja Boy Jinu who helps keep her secret. The character also has a personal connection to the film creator Maggie Kang. Rumi was originally created by her husband Radford Sechrist for a skateboard-themed series called Plastic Walrus in 2011. Sechrist's plans for the series didn't go through but Kang loved Rumi so she decided to recycle Rumi for Kpop Demon Hunters, keeping her distinct faux-hawk braided hair but retooling her story to fit her film. Kang and Sechrist also named their daughter after Rumi. She is voiced by Arden Cho. Her child self is voiced by Rumi Oak, Kang's daughter. Her singing voice is provided by EJae. For Ejae, this role is the closest she came to being an idol singer. She started her career as a trainee for SM Entertainment and aspired to be a Kpop idol, but was never able to debut under them, becoming a Korean singer/songwriter instead, writing songs both for soundtracks and for popular Kpop bands such as Twice and Red Velvet. Ejae also wrote several of the songs on the film's soundtrack Other Wiki Information Last updated: 07/05/25 7:31 AM by jojosstand This entry is not locked and you can edit it as you see fit. |
