He is the protagonist and the eponymous character of Chainsaw_Man and the story is just as much about his growth as a person as it is about his exploits as a devil hunter. Denji starts the story in dire circumstances. He is an orphan who's a servant to Yakuza, being forced to pay off the debts his father accrued with them. Denji's only friend is Pochita, an orange dog like devil that looks a cute animalization of a chainsaw. Denji ends being violently disposed of by his Yakuza superiors, but Pochita saves Denji by becoming Denji's heart, reviving Denji and giving him the power to be a Chainsaw Man. As Chainsaw Man, Denji's head is replaced with a chainsaw with sharp teeth and a long tongue with two chainsaw blades growing out of his arms. He gains the ability to slice and dice solid objects and regenerate from wounds, which is how Denji is brought back to life despite suffering what would otherwise be a certain death. Denji encounters Makima shortly afterwards who has Denji join the Public Safety Bureau under her supervision to fight devils. Even though Denji is being tasked with risking his life, he finds his life at Public Safety Bureau a massive improvement over his past life and feels indebted to Makima. Denji's stated goals are quite simple: eat nice food, sleep well, and get together with beautiful woman, or in his words, touch a boob. Because of this, others often regard Denji as a horny simpleton and treat him accordingly. However, in combat, this ends up working in his favor as Denji's idiosyncratic way of thinking allows him to attempt strategies that no one else would be crazy enough to do and catch his opponents off guard. He is also more self aware than others realize, often taking the time to reflect on his feelings after major events in the story. Denji often seems like he only wants sex, but he responds more deeply and positively to being shown emotional affection, especially when it's coming from a beautiful girl. This is one of Denji's biggest driving influences in life, but also proves to be one of his major weaknesses as it makes him susceptible to being exploited. He is voiced by Toya_Kikunosuke in his first major anime role, jumpstarting his VA career. As a child, he is voiced by Inoue_Marina. On stage, he is played by Tsuchiya Naotake and Tada Masahide and Nakasone Yutaka (both as a child) Series creator Fujimoto Tatsuki considers him to be his favorite character alongside Reze. Although Fujimoto didn't intend the character to be a self insert, others who know him have often commented that his real life personality has a lot in common with Denji.
