It is a science fantasy musical dramedy anime film animated by Studio_Colorido. It was conceived by and directed by Yamashita_Shingo who co-wrote the film with Natsuo Saeri. The film was scored by Conisch, but the film's vocal songs were composed by big name Vocaloid music producers such as ryo of Supercell, Yuigot, Honeyworks, and KZ of livetune. Alongside new songs there are multiple remixes of iconic Vocaloid songs such as World is Mine and Melt. All of the songs are performed by the voice actors. The film has two character designers, Nagae_Akihiro who designed the cast's real world appearances, and Hechima who designed the cast's online appearances. The film is an adaptation of the classic Heian era story, Taketori Monogatari, or Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, updated to a 2020s setting, meaning the Internet provides the major backdrop for this new take on the tale. It also provides a more meta take on the story as the characters are fully aware of the original story which informs their characterization and their decisions. The film follows Sakayori Iroha, a teen girl who lives alone in spite of still being in high school due to being estranged from her mother. To support herself, she has to take on part time jobs and has developed a penny pinching mentality. In spite of being constantly tired, she manages to be a model student at her school, brimming with potential both academically and musically. When she finally gets time to herself she likes to log into the virtual world of Tsukuyomi. The world's biggest star and its administrator is a virtual youtuber/idol named Runami Yachiyo and she is the person that Iroha admires the most, but getting near her seems to just be a unattainable dream for Iroha. One night, Iroha becomes saddled with yet another responsibility, when she discovers a baby stuck inside a glowing telephone pole. Feeling obligated to protect the baby, she takes her in, only for the baby to rapidly grow into a teen girl named Kaguya, and Iroha soon realizes that she's in the same situation as the original Taketori Monogatari tale. Kaguya is Iroha's opposite, being a free spirit who chases her dreams with no hesitation and who constantly pesters Iroha to go along with her whims. Iroha introduces her to Tsukuyomi, which sets in motion events that will change her life. Once there, Yachiyo announces a streamer tournament she calls the Yachiyo Cup. The most popular streamer will get the chance to perform a live concert with Yachiyo. Kaguya, having discovered a goal she wants to strive for, immediately signs up for the tournament and asks Iroha to help her become the top streamer. As the two of them work together to win the Yachiyo Cup, Iroha finds herself reassessing her life philosophy and, realizing the parallels between the Kaguya she knows and the original story's Kaguya, must decide whether she can accept the original story's outcome or if she can defy it.
