It is a sequel and a gender-swapped successor to Devilman. The manga ran from January 30, 1997 to July 16, 1998 in the seinen magazine Weekly Morning, so it has much more graphic sexual content on top of the brutal violence and more overt homoeroticism than its shounen manga predecessor. It was adapted into an anime TV series by TMS Entertainment. The anime ran from October 19, 1998 to May 9, 1998. It was directed by Hirano Toshiki, written by Konaka Chiaki, and scored by Watanabe Toshiaki. The characters were designed by Nishioka_Shinobu giving the anime a different visual style from Nagai's manga. The monsters were designed by Yoda Masahiko and Maruyama Hiroshi. Much like the first Devilman anime, this anime keeps the basic premise of the manga, but goes into a very different direction afterwards. The series follows Fudou Jun, a retired Olympic athlete turned teacher (manga) or a supermodel (anime). She seems to lead a normal life but suffers from some unsettling nightmares that leave her strangely aroused. She soon gets an explanation for her strange dreams when she is attacked by demons and survives by suddenly transforming into a beast herself and gruesomely dispatching them. After the fight, Asuka Lan, an agent who works for the Human Alliance, informs her that she is a Devilman, a devil with the heart of a human, and recruits Jun to fight demons while keeping their existence and her real mission a secret from the rest of humanity.
