Now Viewing: resident_evil_requiemTag type: Copyright The Resident_Evil installment released on the ninth generation consoles: Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. It's the 9th main installment in the franchise with the number 9 being hidden in the q in Requiem. Nakanishi Koshi returns to direct but unlike his purely first person Ethan Winters games, this game returns to the over the shoulder third person perspective pioneered by Resident Evil 4, but also allows the player to play in first player. This installment switches between two gameplay styles reflecting its playable characters and the two sides of the Resident Evil franchise. The gameplay segments starring the nervous rookie Grace Ashcroft are survival horror while the segments starring veteran Leon Scott Kennedy follow the more action-packed gameplay again pioneered by RE4. The game was written by Harris Orkin and scored by Sato Nao, Ohki Masahiko, Kameda Shigeyuki, and Joseph Holiday. The art was handled by Takano Tomonori. It was released on February 27, 2026. The game follows Grace Ashcroft, a rookie FBI analyst who's prior experience consists of desk work. She has been assigned her biggest job yet. She is to investigate some deaths of Raccoon City survivors who in spite of escaping from the bombed city, ended up succumbing to a T-virus infection. This job is also personal to her, as she will be required to directly confront her personal trauma of losing her mother to complete it. She is to first head to Wrenwood Hotel, the exact site where she witnessed her mother's death. As the nervous Grace embarks on her investigation, she finds out that she herself is being targeted by forces associated with the Umbrella Corporation and that there is much more to her past that she had been led to believe. . . This installment's cinematic inspirations were 1990s dark detective horror/thrillers such as The Silence of the Lambs, Se7en, and The X-Files. The game again runs on the RE Engine and the gore is even more detailed with more explicit mutilations, corpses permanently laying on the ground, and more realistic blood physics. The game was a critical success receiving generally positive reviews from critics. It was also a major success sales-wise, with it becoming the best performing game on Steam with 344,214 players on launch weekend.
