Now Viewing: resident_evil_5Tag type: Copyright Follows the gameplay style introduced in Resident Evil 4. It was released in 2009 for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. It is directed by Ueda Kenichi, produced by Kawata Masachika and chief produced by Takuechi Jun. Murata Haruo wrote the story. It is the first Resident Evil game made after series creator Mikami Shinji left the series. The music is composed by Suzuki Kota, Okugawa Hideki, Narita Akihito, and Kobuchi Seiko. The soundtrack features 15 minutes of orchestral music that was recorded at the Newman Scoring Stage at 20th Century Fox Studios in Los Angeles. This was done in order to give the game's music a more cinematic Hollywood movie like feel. The game features a partner system; Chris and Sheva work together for the entire game. One of them can be controlled by the AI, or two players can play the game at the same time. Both partners can heal each other by pressing the action button if they're next to each other and have herbs. They can also revive each other when one of them enters a Dying stage. Notably, entering the inventory is in real time, as opposed to pausing the game, meaning that you can be injured if an enemy attacks you while you're in the inventory screen. The game also features a Mercernary minigame in which the player takes out as many enemies as s/he can, and in DLC, a Slayer mode which is a free for all battle that pits human players against each other with the Majini participating as well. DLC includes a canon Lost in Nightmares mode, which is a prequel to the game's main story. While the main game is more action packed, this mode is reminiscent of the original Resident Evil in that Chris and Jill explore a mansion in the middle of the night and there are also fewer enemies. Set in 2009, Chris Redfield has become a Bioterrorism Security Assignment Alliance (BSAA) agent. He is sent to Kijuju where he partners up with Sheva Alomar to meet with a BSAA contact planning to take down a smuggler named Ricardo Irving. However, the mission quickly goes awry when they are attacked by Ganado like enemies, known as the Majini. After fending off various monsters, Chris and Sheva meet Josh Stone, leader of the BSAA Delta team, who gives Chris a surprising piece of information, a picture of Jill Valentine who was supposedly killed during an investigation of Wesker's whereabouts (this story is told in its entirety in the Lost in Nightmares DLC) Chris teams up with Sheva to investigate Jill's fate and defeat Ricardo and his employers. In the Western hemisphere, the game is notorious for the racism controversy that arose when the first trailer was released. The first trailer showed the Caucasian Chris Redfield battling infected African villagers, which offended some viewers who felt it came off as racist against African people. Capcom was surprised at the controversy, though designer Takeuchi Jun stated that the controversy did not affect the game's development. Nevertheless, the second trailer showed a more racially diverse group of enemies and introduced Chris' African partner Sheva Alomar. Despite the controversy, the game received generally positive reviews and sold 6.5 million copies by 2013. This game is also unique in the franchise for largely being set during daytime. This decision was inspired by both the more advanced graphical capabilities of the PS3 and the zombie horror film 28 Days Later, which showed the creators that a horror work that takes place during daytime can still be scary.
