He debuted in Super Mario Land 2 as the villain, but has become more of an anti hero/ villain protagonist since then, starring in many spin off games like Wario Land, Wario Ware, Wario's World. He is presented as an evil counterpart and rival to Mario, but his popularity has led to him starring in many games where Mario is not involved whatsoever so this aspect of his character is not as emphasized. He wears a yellow shirt and hat and purple overalls and is very greedy. Money, treasure, and the promise of more land is his main motivation for doing anything. He also has zig-zaggy mustache and large purple nose. He is short and very fat, but he is extremely strong and sturdy; in some games, it is a key gameplay mechanic that he can't die at all. Rather, Wario will have to use his body, often by doing things that would be considered suicidal in real life like lighting oneself on fire, to get past obstacles making the games like a puzzle game. He also has a lot of vulgar habits like picking his nose and farting. He is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. His name is a combination of warui (meaning bad) and Mario hence his name literally means Bad Mario.
