Now Viewing: yotsubato!Tag type: Copyright よつばと! Yotsubato! is a popular episodic slice of life comedy manga created by Azuma_Kiyohiko. It debuted on March 21 2003. It was preceded by the one-shot 1998 manga, Try! Try! Try!, which is something of a prototype for this series. Most of the chapters focus on the innocent, cheerful, and energetic five-year-old girl Koiwai_Yotsuba, who becomes fascinated with something, leading to lots of humorous hijinks which often involve or drag in her adoptive father and her friends and neighbors. The series has a very upbeat and positive tone and every chapter follows the mantra of "Today is always the most enjoyable day." Although the series is a slice of life comedy like its predecessor Azumanga Daiou, it's not a yonkoma like said series and is a fully illustrated full page manga, allowing for expanded style of comic timing and space for more detailed background art. The series has received strong positive critical and fan reception. It won an Excellence Award for Manga at the 2006 Japan Media Arts Festival and in 2016 won the Grand Prize at the 20th Osamu Tezuka Culture Awards. Its artwork was also exhibited at the Gallery of Fantastic Art in Tokyo from December 2-17, 2006. The series, and particularly its protagonist, is also popular amongst many users of the English language image board 4chan, which has made Yotsuba its mascot. 4chan's name in Japanese is also Yotsuba Channel. She often appears in 4chan's information pages, such as the 'you've been banned' page and the error page '404 Page not found', which leads to some users calling Yotsuba "the 404 Girl." Many of 4chan's users, who have a reputation for being irreverent, also express protectiveness towards her. The 'character' Danbo has also become a mascot for Amazon Japan. Despite the series' popularity and critical acclaim, the series has not received any anime/live action adaptations because of Azuma's belief that the series wouldn't translate to either medium. The closest thing to an Yotsuba anime is the spinoff of the manga's famous cardboard robot Danbo, Nyanbo, who starred in a self-titled anime series in 2016. Despite the lack of an anime, the manga received soundtracks/image albums composed by Kurihara Masaki and performed by Kuricorder Pops Orchestra, the same musicians who worked on the Azumanga Daiou score.
