Now Viewing: vanquishTag type: Copyright 2010 science fiction third person shooter game developed by Platinum Games and directed by Mikami Shinji. It was released on the XBox 360 and PS3. It is produced by Inaba Atsushi, Keith Dwyer, and Yoshino Jun. The game's techno soundtrack is composed by Niwa Erina, Takada Masafumi, and Sugimori Masakazu. The game's story is written by Kato Hiroki and Jean Pierre Williams. It is a cover based shooting game but its gameplay is very fast-paced. Its protagonist Sam Gideon, thanks to a powered suit he wears, is much faster and more agile than most cover based shooting game protagonists. He has the ability to power slide and move extremely fast which is represented by everything slowing down much like The Matrix and allows the player to get a few more hits onto an enemy or find a place to hide. The player also gets a lower score if s/he spends too much time hiding, so the player is encouraged to use cover sparingly and fight more dynamically. Almost every battle involves enemies firing enormous barrages of lasers and missiles from almost all directions; the places that the player can use for cover can be destroyed making the battles more chaotic. While Sam is usually accompanied by fellow soldiers during combat, the player will still have to do most of the work. Like much of Platinum Games' work, this game is known for being extremely difficult. A US space colony named Providence has been taken over by a militant Russian group known as Order of the Russian Star. Said group has used the colony's microwave transmitter to destroy San Francisco. Sam Gideon and a group of marines aren sent to the colony to stop the Order of the Russian Star and its robot army. Things become less clear cut than it initially seems and Sam gradually discovers that the US government and its marines have a darker side to them. . . The game is influenced by the anime Neo Human Casshern; Mikami wanted to design a game that has a similar feel to said anime, but he specifically added gunplay into this game because he had already made a 3d brawler and wanted to do something a bit different. The fast-paced gunplay of this game was also inspired by Neo Human Casshern as Mikami wanted the game to have a sense of speed just like Casshern so the ability to slide around the battlefield was introduced. The game is also something of a spiritual successor to Mikami's previous science fiction third person shooter, PN03, which also involved a protagonist who is able to do battle with robots thanks to wearing a specialized suit. The game's premise of a full-scale war with robots is similar to one of the original ideas for PN03. The sold 900,000+ copies as of July 2013 and received generally positive reviews from critics.
