Now Viewing: sora_no_wotoTag type: Copyright (ソ・ラ・ノ・ヲ・ト) 2010 Military moe slice of life dramedy directed by Kanbe Mamoru and written by Yoshino Hiroyuki. The series ran from January 5, 2010 to March 22, 2010 and was followed by two OVAs released the same year. It has also been adapted into a visual novel for the PSP and a manga, both released in 2010. The title translates as Sound of the Sky. The orchestral music is composed by Oshima Michiru. The characters are designed by Akai_Toshifumi. The original designs are by Kishida_Mel. It is an anime original series that was created as part of TV Tokyo's Anime no Chikara project. It has also been adapted into a visual novel. It is set in a distant future after the world has been ravaged by a large scale and highly destructive war. Seize, one of the few remaining hospitable areas in the world resembles early twentieth century Europe and a hybrid of multiple cultures. Cheerful and innocent Sorami Kanata joins the all female 1121st Squad at the Clocktower Fortress. Kanata isn't interested in fighting, but has joined the platoon in order to be a bugler, having been inspired as a young girl by a trumpeter's performance of Amazing Grace. Despite this, Sorata is accepted into the squad, which doesn't see much combat action due to being posted in a relatively peaceful remote area and being led by the laid-back Second Lieutenant Filicia Heidemann. Sorata and the platoon experience a variety of misadventures while she trains to be a bugler, but although they are posted in a remote region, they soon find they can't escape war. . . The series' setting is inspired by Cuenca, Spain and Switzerland and some of the background art is directly modeled after real world locations. The series leaves many things unsaid or unexplained about the world. Although the series features a moe art style and plenty of humor, it also deals with the more unpleasant aspects of military conflict. The opening animation is a fine art homage to Gustav Klimst with the Sora no Woto cast inserted into his paintings. Director Kanbe did something similar in his previous anime TV series, Elfen Lied.
