The anime and video game feature more or less the same main characters but they are radically different from each other in genre and story. The former is a wacky parody that focused on the female characters of the game and excised the male protagonist of the game Tact Meyers excised. The games are a more serious space opera romance series. Part of the reason for the extreme difference between the two is because the game's production was delayed causing a strange case where the anime adaptation was released first; production of the game began before the anime.
