It started as a series of short stories in 2003 and concluded in 2005. The original stories were written with heavy fan input and involvement and the fans played a large role in how the story progressed; which girl ended up with which girl was actually decided by the fans and Sakurako would write the story in such a way to make the most popular pairings possible. These stories formed the basis of the light novels written in 2006. The series was highly successful and has been adapted into video games and anime. It is set in the all girls Astraea Hill which is split into multiple academies (St. Miator, St. Spica, and St. Lumin) within the same general area and sports a large all-female cast. Aoi Nagisa is a transfer student who has recently transferred into St. Miator as a fourth year student. When she arrives, she meets the beautiful Hanazono Shizuma who is an Etoile of the school, meaning that she is a representative that mediates between schools. Nagisa is instantly entranced by Shizuma and Shizuma takes an interest in the new student, kissing her on the forehead. Nagisa passes out soon after this and upon coming to, meets her new roommate Suzumi Tamao. As Nagisa settles into the school, she is soon embroiled in school politics and the various romantic entanglements of its students. Unlike Maria-sama ga Miteru, most of the relationships in the series are explicitly romantic in nature.
