The TV series debuted in 2005 and was directed by Kusakawa Keizo and written by Tsuzuki Masaki. The series assumes viewers have seen the original so those who haven't seen the original and do not want to be spoiled may be spoiled by the following summary and looking up further information. It has been six months since the end of the first season. Nanoha has not seen in Fate in person in that time, but they have exchanged video mails. In the meantime, Fate has stood trial for her actions in the first season but has been acquitted of all charges and has joined the Time Space Administration Bureau along with her familiar Arf. It looks like things are back to normal for Nanoha, but a new threat soon arrives. One night, Nanoha encounters a group of female knights known as the Belkan Knights who attack her. They are far more powerful than any enemy Nanoha has faced, and even when Fate arrives just in time to save Nanoha, the two girls are unable to defeat the knights and are forced to retreat. The girls soon learn that the knights are seeking to complete the Book of Darkness, which must be filled with magic drained from mages and living beings' spirits. Nanoha and Fate team up to stop the knights, but unbeknownst to them, the conflict between the two factions is less morally clear cut than it seems; the knights want to complete the Book of Darkness in order to save their kind hearted and frail wheelchair bound master Yagami Hayate who will be killed if the book isn't completed. The series is darker and more serious in tone than the original and expands on the shonen style action seen in the first. Like the first season, it has also received an anime movie retelling.
