Now Viewing: saeba_ryouTag type: Character 冴羽獠 The eponymous protagonist of City_Hunter. He is muscular young man who often dresses in coats. The French dub changes his name to Nicky Larson. He is a legendary sweeper who is hired for various difficult and potentially shady jobs which include working as a bodyguard, assassination, etc. Despite the moral questionableness of his occupation, Saeba has a strong sense of compassion and moral standards and will not work with clients he thinks are untrustworthy or reprehensible. He also bonds with many of his clients who are often grateful for his help. He is extremely skilled with guns which is one of the main reasons he is so well known, but he can also fight hand to hand competently if he needs to. While he does not have an explicit no killing policy, he tends to avoid killing his opponents but instead demonstrates that he can easily kill them if he wants to by pulling off extremely difficult shots that narrowly miss them like shooting through their hair so that it shaves off a large chunk of their hair and narrowly misses their head. This is usually enough to scare off most of his enemies. He is also quite fond of messing around with and humiliating his opponents. However, he is willing to take on assassination jobs or to kill if the target is morally reprehensible enough or if Saeba is especially angry. He has a keen sense of danger and can often sense when someone is plotting against him or an incoming ambush. He has a strong sexual appetite, which is the other part of his character that is well known in and out of universe. If a client is an attractive woman and of adult age, he will be especially enthusiastic in helping the client out. His lechery often leads him to fondle women when he gets the chance, but he will not exploit women and at one point refuses the sexual services of a woman who has been manipulated with drugs. He especially dislikes men who have gravely harmed women. He also avoids seducing girls who are considerably younger than he is though this is partially because he prefers women with a mature vibe and a nice figure. In the manga, he is so horny that his penis will enlarge to comically exaggerated proportions whenever he's especially excited. He is a bit too proud of his ability to get such erections for many woman's comfort and is not afraid to show attractive women his enormous and rock hard erections. Ryou's penis by itself appears to have superhuman strength as he is able to punch through walls and even deflect kicks by simply getting a strong enough erection! Ryou's greatest fear is becoming impotent which he considers to be worse than being killed. Although he often acts like a horny fool, Saeba is quite intelligent and is able to devise complex strategies to solve problems and can perfectly imitate other people's voices. He is also quite successful with women in-universe and it is not uncommon for female clients to fall in love with him, and occasionally declare their intention to marry him, at the end of a mission even if they had previously dismissed him as a horny moron. He is very protective of his female partner Makimura_Kaori and had promised her deceased brother Hideki that he would take care of her. Accordingly, he is less lecherous towards her though he tends to make fun of Kaori's lack of femininity which is a sore spot for Kaori. However, she is able to arouse him when she shows him her body while disguised. Ryou cares for Kaori, but he is better at hiding his feelings than Kaori and he cares for her more than she realizes. For similar reasons, Ryou never discusses his background with Kaori or anyone else though some people have accurately sensed that he is not like other people in the city. Ryou also has a large appetite for food and eats a lot during every meal he has. Although Saeba is often hyper competent, he is terrified of flying in airplanes. In the Angel Heart continuity, Saeba's personality is mostly the same. However, his backstory differs from the original series and he first meets Kaori under a different set of circumstances. He also becomes a couple with Kaori but the relationship is tragically cut short when she is killed at the beginning of the series. However Kaori in a sense lives on through Xiang-ying but Ryou treats her more as a daughter than a love interest due to Xiang-ying's young age. Ryou is a playable fighter in the Shonen Jump crossover, Jump_Force, again voiced by Kamiya. He is voiced by Kamiya_Akira. Ryou is one of Kamiya's favorite roles to play and he has continued to reprise this role in his later years whereas his other iconic roles have been recast. In live action he is played by Jackie_Chan in the 1993 film, Michael Chow in the 1997 film, and Philippe Lacheau in the 2019 film. In the Angel_Heart drama, he is played by Kamikawa Takaya.
