Because webm is an objectively better format and merely converting gif to webm produces poor results.

Only for normal videos. gif is perfect for pixel art. The problem with gifs is the limited number of colors, which is not an issue for pixel art.

That's backwards in this case since gif is lossless and video codecs introduce compression. Pixel art should probably be all gif.
