Now Viewing: nurse_witch_komugi-chanTag type: Copyright ナースウィッチ小麦ちゃんマジカルて A magical girl comedy OVA animated by Tatsunoko. It ran from August 23, 2002 to April 2, 2004. It is a spinoff of Soul_Taker that makes Nakahara Komugi, previously the main comic relief character from the original, into the protagonist. Besides character designer Watanabe_Akio, the anime is handled by a different creative team from that series. It was directed by Takemoto_Yasuhiro, who went on to be a prominent director at Kyoto Animation, and Yonetani Yoshitomo. The music was composed by Takagi Ryuji. Momoi_Haruko, who plays Komugi, sings the OP and ED themes of the OVA. The OVA is an alternate continuity from Soul Taker, and is its complete opposite in tone, being a lighthearted parody of that series and anime culture in general. It also drops the stylized, dark and shadow-heavy visual style of the original in favor of bright color scheme to suit the comedic tone. It follows the adventures of Nakahara Komugi, a cheerful cosplay idol who works at Kiri Pro. She can turns into a magical girl to solve whatever conflict arises, and the conflicts often come in the form of rival magical girl Kokunbunji Koyori who causes trouble by infecting people with viruses. The OVA reuses the cast from the original Soul Taker, but places them in different roles from their original incarnations although some aspects of their original characterization are still present. All of the seiyuu reprise their roles. The OVAs are spiritual successors to the Soul Taker OVA specials Komugi's Great Operation. Those DVD-only shorts were short comedic episodes focusing on Komugi, and they notably introduced some elements that would be key to the OVAs, such as Koyori and one of the OVA theme songs Ai no Medicine. The OVA became popular enough to spawn a reboot, Nurse Witch Komugi-chan R, which focuses on completely new cast, devoid of any Soul Taker characters. It stars a new Komugi named Yoshida Komugi who is played by different seiyuu, Tomoe Kei. Momoi is still present as a supporting character, Hime-P.
