Yeah, portraying her without them just seems shallow to me. It's like the artist is saying, 'hey! Hanako is great, but like this, she'd be even better!'

She is still wearing the school uniform, implying she is still enrolled at the school.
You'd still meet her, but maybe her parents are alive. I think that's more ideal, if way worse for a story character.
I'd be happier for her, looking at it as if I were from some alternate universe.
