1. It's pronounced so, but it's spelled sol. It's music language. Arpeggio looks like are-peggy-o but it's are-page-yo for example.

The reason it's pronounced that way is because it's Italian. That doesn't apply to "so".
For the record, both "sol" and "so" are correct. I still prefer "so" though.
