Actually, the piece was called "Canadian Violence" --- this is a parody of Anne breaking her mini-chalkboard in front of Gilbert Blythe (he had made fun of her).

People only pronounce it as Zee BECAUSE of the song ya goof. If you want someone to blame for the pronunciation, blame Latin and French. Learn to pronounce bottle of water, then we'll talk
