Medusa must be one of the loneliest creatures in the world.

Medusa, like most mythological Greek figures, is a complicated figure, who is presented in various ways over time. Loneliness was never really a part of her aspect though - this in a lot of ways is a modern association, because we forget her sisters, uhh... I forget their names. There were three Gorgons, and in the earliest references, they were chthonic monsters (chthonic meaning "of the underworld," basically) and depicted as frightful monsters. Over time, you began to see more aesthetic representations of the Gorgons, assimilating classical beauty standards into clearly monstrous features, which later gave rise to poetic interpretations of her as a cursed figure, transformed from beauty into monstrosity.

This was because she fucked - this is the part I can't quite remember - I think she fucked an acolyte of Athena who was sworn to celibacy (which was why Athena later gave Perseus the mirrored shield to defend against her), and she did it in the temple of Minerva, an act of desecration which caused the goddess to punish her by turning her into a monster.

So, the real moral of Medusa is you shouldn't just go to people's houses and bust a nut on their couch

More like Poseidon raped her and Athena punished her since she couldn't do anything against her uncle
